Mr. Cheney has failed to mention that the power of the Presidency had been sidelined is because that power was abused. Abused is hardly the word. Power was wielded without conscience, without restraint, with no concern for the consequences. For years before the fall of Saigon, the American people were lied to again and again by the administrations of Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon. Either there was nothing at all to worry about in south east Asia or nothing less than the peace of the world was at stake. Propaganda spewed forth from a series of individuals known as the best and the brightest, but history quickly unmasked as the totally clueless: America had turned the corner, the dominos would surely fall, Vietnamization, the light was at the end of the tunnel and the body count was right where it needed to be. All lied to because a civil war in an obscure country in a alien part of the globe was somehow become a part of the ‘vital interests’ of one of the only two world superpowers.

Mr. Cheney must believe the American people somehow want the return of King George. He must believe that those in power are somehow by birth, blood, money or power are infallible. He must believe that a near ten year failed war in Indo China and the 50,000 dead Americans to go with it, started by a Massachusetts blue blood , followed by a ruthless, lying Texan and ending with a near maniacal president Nixon, buzzed out on scotch and amphetamines, pacing the halls at midnight in a darkened White House and babbling to portraits of Lincoln are good things.

Mr. Cheney must endorse this or over look them, because he now has his own folly. This folly is nothing less than a failed war in a formerly obscure country led by a former American client. A folly with no end in sight, begun on a lie sold to a gullible or frightened American public with propaganda again flowing out of the mouths of the assumed best and brightest in the administration or the polluted and corrupt journalists who supported this tale the Arabian nights. Fortunately, history has again repeated itself. Those who sought to Neo con us have been revealed as the liars they are.

Of course, the real villain here is not the men who would be Kings. They have never really denied what they are and what they want. The cabal is the cabal and makes no bones about. Those who are suppose to stop them are the elected members of House of Representatives who must check that power, and they either failed or became political quislings. The men and women of the United States congress rolled over, afraid to be called cowards, appeasers, or worse. They jumped on the patriotic cum fascists band wagon, fueled by the campaign contributions of the corporations who would make the most profit from the upcoming looting of the U.S. Treasury. They cheered as the executive, aided by a fanatical Justice department began to shred the constitution.

As we go to press, it all begins to unwind.

The President himself now seems to against the political ropes. It is now known that the chief executive, the man who swore to protect and defend the constitution, has sought to undermine that same document. He has ordered wire- taps on American citizens without court order. Done in the mane of protecting those same citizens. Of course, these wire- taps would never be used against any political opponent or those suspected of disloyalty. The White House has dossiers on nearly 10,000 political enemies (source: Capital Hill Blue) the White House would never use the mind numbing power of the National Security Agency against his political enemies. Just the bad guys. Ask the ghost of Richard Nixon.

Just this week the New York Times revealed part of the 2,300 documents, supplied by the ACLU by way of persistent FOIA lawsuits that finally bore fruit. Our own FBI has been at it again, spying on such notorious Al-Qaeda conspirators such as PETA, Green Peace, and the Catholic Workers group.

But the most disturbing news is that in 2002, Bush signed a secret order “enabling the National Security Agency (NSA) to monitor US citizens telephone and electronic mail without warrant when they are in touch with someone abroad, contrary to legal precedent…”.

Give an Imperial president a taste of power and he will surely want more. They question we should all ask is when will it end? commentary

The Madness of King George

What we at Alt have long warned against has now been revealed for American citizens to see for themselves. President George W. Bush, no doubt at the order of his very own vice president Richard Bruce Cheney, is attempting nothing less than a grab for power designed to undermine the constitution of the United States and reduce the House and Senate to nothing more than a corrupt rubber stamp. The executive branch wants to call all the shots, with any notion of a check to that power from the legislative or judicial branches nothing more than a distant memory. Of course, the justification for this return to an Imperial presidency resembling that of Richard Nixon is the terrorist attacks against America on September 11th. Whenever George Bush speaks we can be assured of repeated references to that tragedy and his implied message that he and he alone has saved America from further aggression from these Muslim extremists who want to kill you son and sell your daughter off the highest bidding Sultan.

During recent interviews, Vice President Dick Cheney has made no bones about the fact that he believes the Viet Nam war and the Watergate scandal have caused the power of the Oval Office to become eroded. The power of the presidency must be restored. In a recent New York Times interview the Vice President noted that the president ‘needs to have his constitutional powers unimpaired, if you will, in terms of the conduct of national security policy.” This is curious statement about a proven uncurious George Bush who doesn’t appear to read books, newspapers or his own daily briefings. It’s a curious statement about a president who seems to trust in God to dictate his foreign policy.
